Moving with the seasons

Seasonal yoga - what can I expect?

If you look outside the window, it is not hard to miss how dramatically different nature looks and feels in each of the year’s seasons. The same applies to animals but also to us humans! Depending on the time of year, our bodies are changing in profound ways, in terms of energy levels, needs, but also our mindsets change.

In winter, we yearn for introspection, stillness and slow flowing movements. Spring begs for new beginnings, but is also a time to bring back some energy and pacify frustration. In the height of summer, where the heart and fire elements reign, we are in our peak yang-energy, often looking for more strength-building movements.

Whichever time we find ourselves in, we need to take care of prana, our life energy, and honour the sometimes dramatic changes we go through during a year. As a student of a seasonal yoga teacher training (200hrs Yoga Alliance approved) I am guiding you along with the gentle rhythm of nature.

Seasonal yoga with Kristina - About me

First a little bit about myself. Born and raised in Germany, I was always surrounded by horses, lots of animals and plenty of nature. Today our home is on a farm near the Pentland Hills with our three dogs. We are just building our cosy yoga room using reclaimed materials, where you can get 20 mile views over the surrounding fields.

You could call me a minimalist, an all-things-barefoot enthusiast, a foreign language addict and a lover of permaculture: Me and my partner try to grow as much of our own food as we can, sometimes successfully. I fell in love with yoga in my twenties and just never stopped - what started as a hobby became a slight obsession. My 200hr seasonal yoga teacher training made me appreciate how closely humans are connected to the seasons, and why staring at screens deep into the night in the midst of winter is such a bad idea.

Guiding people into stillness, watching their stress melt away as their faces soften is my biggest joy. I love helping students feel their own body again and helping them to reconnect with the rhythm of nature, through movement and breath. I am well versed in various yoga styles such as ashtanga, yin, hatha yoga and vinyasa flow. I am also qualified in breathwork and meditation practices.

Yin yoga is famously beneficial for your fascia and if you are particularly stressed and are looking to calm the nervous system. We are starting with a calming breath practice and then glide into long-held asanas, typically 2-5 minutes per pose. Yin yoga gently and slowly stretches all the muscles in your body while letting you immerse yourself in the quiet and calm inside of you. 1hour.

With a variety of styles and rhythms to suit your body and each season of the year

Yoga and breathwork can be powerful tools helping you to move effortlessly through each season. This is why I will create a dynamic and ever changing selection of classes and guidance, tailored to the time of year and each client individually.

I tend to only teach one on one or in small groups of max. 3 students. I feel this way I can honour each person’s needs or injuries, and can really take my time to adapt the practice to the student.

Each class is made for you, your body and your ability. Whether you’re looking for a full cardio flow or a relaxing meditation, I’ve got the options you need to balance your practice and your changing energy levels.
